Let’s start here, before I get into all the things that will get people on the Jesus Squad all up in my business. I am very much cognizant of what Christmas is supposed to be versus what it is. So as I go down this path of what is about to flow through my fingers, don’t @ me!
I did not grow up in a religious household. I think I can count on one hand how many times we tried to do Church services, but it just was never a right fit. There was a belief in God, but it was just never practiced in the manner that is most common.
In the Western world, I’ve seen the glorification over the years that if one puts their faith in God, anything is possible. There was a time where I subscribed to that personally, but after walking that path and finding that perception isn’t reality, I fell off that wagon.
Now mind you, I’m not saying I’m Atheist, I do believe there is a “supreme being” responsible for things. In my mind, Catholics, Christians, Jews, all seem to revolve around the same thing, but just in different orbits. Then there are other religions that deal with multiple deities. Wether you subscribe to Jesus, Allah, Mohammed, Buddha, or any other myriad of gods out there, I have the belief that they all have one underlying mantra that is all the same, live a peaceful life, have respect for others, and when your time comes, you’ll ultimately find out who is really running the show.
So, when my time comes, I totally expect to see Alanis Morissette welcoming me into the great beyond (It’s a Dogma reference kids, find a copy if you can, thank you Kevin Smith.)
I have to say that after seeing him play Snape in the Harry Potter films all those years, I love coming back to something like Dogma and seeing Alan Rickman pay a totally different character. Damn, I miss him!
