I got shot, not once, but twice!

Don’t mind me, it’s been few months, I’ve been tired, mentally drained. Honestly I forgot how to use WordPress.

The last time I joined you all, I just started coming down from having ‘Rona. Since then, I’ve finally gotten both of my vaccine shots (Pfizer, thank you very much), and I am now a fully vaccinated member of society.

My experience with it wasn’t all that bad. I heard about the various reactions that came down with the vaccines and I tried to prepare for it. For my first shot, I took the day off from work (which I found later I didn’t need to do in the manner I did, more later). Since I have weekends off, taking Friday gave me two days to recover in case I really had a bad reaction. As I at the time fell into the high risk category due to having the diabetes I was able to schedule at a mass vaccination site.

I got my first shot on a Friday afternoon and I had it go into my left (non-dominant) arm. I felt decent the remainder of the night, but I woke up the following morning with the sore arm. I popped aspirin all weekend, it took nearly a full week for the soreness to go away.

So fast forward three weeks later. This time, I didn’t take the full day off of work, but I took a half day. I had found out after I had gotten the first shot that my employer was giving time off for the shots that didn’t count against our vacation/sick time. So having wasted a vacation day, I was determined not to do that again. This time, I used the time offered by my employer to get the second shot.

The after effects of the second shot was a bit more pronounced than the first. This time I got it in the Right arm. Within a couple of hours, faster than with the first shot, my arm soreness came on strong. My soreness was accompanied by total exhaustion all weekend. I pretty much spent the entire weekend of the second dose in bed, sleeping on and off. Come Monday morning, I was still a bit tired, but okay to make the long commute from my bedroom to my computer to go back to work.

Two weeks later, I’m a fully vaccinated human. Now my problem is Mrs. Shizz. Mrs. Shizz has always been stubborn and hard headed, she hasn’t really been ill enough to have a need to see a doctor, but she’s getting to that age where she should be seeing a doctor. So getting her to get her vaccination has been a bit of a challenge, she won’t even get the flu shot. She’s one of the holdouts you hear about when you hear about “vaccine hesitancy”.

I keep trying to convince her she needs to just get it done and over with. I went and did it, I made sure her mother got it (in fact we scheduled to get ours together at the same time), her nieces have gotten it. It’s a hard point of contention, we have fought over it. She argues that since she’s had it, there is no reason for her to get it. I tell her that she got off lucky. She’s aware that people have gotten a second and even a third time. The next time I told her, should that occur, could be much worse. I tell her that the vaccine has been documented to help with the immune response to a secondary infection. No matter what I do, I can’t get her to submit to do it.

Now that all adults are eligible and the Rite-Aid five minutes from the house has doses, I’m really trying to push her to just (in Larry The Cable Guy voice) “git-r-done”. I’m hoping she gets tired of me bringing it up and just gives in. I really just want the peace of mind knowing that we both did our part to protect ourselves and everyone else.
