Man, seeing this article on TMZ today makes me wish I would have gotten more into the Pokemon Card craze when they first came out.
At the time, I was working at a independent gas station whose owners recognized early on how hot these cards were and managed to get in with someone at Wizards of the Coast who was the distributor at the time. They were able to get boxes of these things on demand without having to go through a local distributor where many were on a waiting list to even get one box, let alone multiples.
Had I asked the owners (who where some of the nicest people I have ever worked for and miss them to this day), I could have bought boxes of Pokemon cards at cost and then amassed my own collection that I could be selling right now for a cool 750k.
Welp, so much for that dream! “Team Rocket”, blasting off again!
